What are Self-Directed Learning Texts?
Self-Directed Learning texts offer the practicing professional a convenient and flexible approach to continuing education in the HVAC&R field. This learning format allows you to review and study the material at your own pace and provides exercises that enable you to evaluate how well you are learning the material.

How do Self-Directed Learning Texts Work?
When you enroll, you will receive the course learning text and a complete set of skill development exercises along with detailed instructions on how to complete the text. The texts are designed to make learning easy and interesting by dividing the material into a series of study units.

Each learning text includes the following:

• Clear and concise discussion of the technical topic covered in the unit
• Examples that show you how to apply the principles you’ve learned
• Skill development exercises that give you experience in applying the newly acquired knowledge and allow you to assess progress in learning the material

You will send your completed skill development exercises to ASHRAE where your progress will be monitored. Your work will be returned with exercise solutions. Your inquiries about technical concepts will be handled by ASHRAE staff and/or subject matter experts who are technically competent in the subject area.

Available Self-Directed Learning Texts:

Completion Certificate and Awarding of PDHs
Upon successful completion of all the skill development exercises, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and 3.5 CEUs for learning texts. Each Self-Directed Learning Text typically earns 35 continuing education credits. Individuals are responsible for contacting their relevant governing body to determine whether an activity qualifies for that body’s continuing education credits.
