Technical sales engineers ensure that the selection of components within a design provide the most efficient system possible. By knowing all of the options available, the technical sales engineer can better advise the designer, contractor and facilities manager.

There are several career levels available within this job sector. Some technical sales engineers work directly for the manufacturer in a major city or market area, while others buy a franchise to market that product exclusively in a geographical territory. There are also independent vendors who are free to select which equipment is best to use in a particular design.

Strong communication skills are essential to become successful in the field of technical sales. Often, these individuals may be working with business people who are relatively weak on the technical merits of your product line. As with any sales position, hard work is a key to success. However, the financial rewards can be quite substantial to those who are committed to their respective position.
