During that time, he oversaw the move of the publications department from the Society’s former headquarters in New York to Atlanta with only three managers out of a staff of 22. Once ASHRAE relocated, he hired 19 new staff members while continuing to publish the ASHRAE Journal each month along with other publications. He edited the first SI version of the ASHRAE Handbook and produced the first edition of the Pocket Guide. MacPhee was first hired as an assistant editor for the Guide in 1957.
