Region IThe Boston Chapter hosted a joint meeting with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). A presentation on the content, background and development of Standard 90.1, including the participants, procedures and involvement of interested parties was given by Distinguished Lecturer Larry Spielvogel… Connecticut Chapter presented a tech session on applying the ANSI noise control standard (S12.60) for classrooms. Bennet Brooks, Brooks Acoustics Corp., was the speaker… Long Island Chapter held a joint meeting with ACCA. James Tauby of Mason Ind. Inc., gave a presentation on seismic design and application. Tauby’s presentation covered practical requirements and applications for seismic restraints using the 2007 New York State Building Code in accordance with the 2003 International Building Code (IBC). Region IIIPhiladelphia Chapter sponsored student night, a joint meeting with SMCA. Geoff Lawler of Environmental Systems Group presented a program on duct-mounted, high-pressure spray/ultrasonic humidification. Larry Snyder, Clapp Associates, moderated a panel discussion on designing, balancing, commissioning and building. The panel included Joseph Smaul, Matthew Sano, Kenneth Strup and Tom DeMusis… A program on energy recovery systems was presented by Gary Hensley of Heat Pipe Technologies at the Roanoke Chapter monthly meeting. Region VIIllinois Chapter sponsored a half-day seminar on LEED® for HVAC. The seminar offered useful information for design engineers interested in enhancing their knowledge of sustainability. Dan Bully, vice president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago spoke on things HVAC professionals need to know and do to obtain LEED accredited program designation… La Crosse Chapter conducted a tour of Trane Acoustics Lab. Tom Gallant of Trane guided the tour, which included a look at the facilities and instrumentation; a discussion of the characteristics of sound evaluation techniques and HVAC industry rating methods and an explanation of how sound rating results are applied. Region IXKansas City Chapter held a joint meeting with the Kansas City Chapter of USGBC. ASHRAE President Kent Peterson was the speaker. Peterson’s presentation, titled Greater Efficiency Today, Blue Skies Tomorrow: Innovation For A Sustainable Built Environment, encourages the industry and ASHRAE members to be more innovative, more daring in their creativity, and dedicated to the pursuit of best practices, which will dramatically improve building energy performance. Region XIITampa Chapter had its National Engineers Week banquet and named John Wells III, P.E. (left), Engineer of the Year. Director and Region XII Chairman Ross Montgomery presided over the event. | |
