ASHRAE Journal Editor

This position reports to the Director of Publications & Education

ASHRAE has an immediate opening for the top editorial position responsible for our Journal.

This position creates editorial content for the periodicals comprising ASHRAE Media. This includes magazines and newsletters, their associated digital editions, and related and associated web presences and tools.  ASHRAE Media content is required to have high relevance and value for the practice of engineering related to building technology.   In fulfilling this role, the editor enhances the perception of ASHRAE as an indispensable resource for technological advancement by Society members and the industry at large.

Requirements include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree PLUS a minimum of 10 years magazine related experience.  Magazine experience must include management responsibility for editorial workflow and editorial policy implementation.  Staff management experience required along with ability to report on industry events.  Travel is a requirement.

Member Services: Administrative Assistant

ASHRAE seeks an Administrative Assistant for administrative support for its member development and retention activities. Frequent interaction with customers, potential customers and other industry professionals. Frequent cross-departmental collaboration to ensure smooth operation of the organization.

Candidates must demonstrate ability to be professional, take initiative, solve problems, and use sound judgment.

Work experience with non-profit organizations preferred. Minimum 3 years of administrative office experience required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have excellent English and grammatical skills. Must work well in a team-based environment. Minimum of Associate-level college degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Program Director of Government Affairs

This position reports to the Executive Vice President

ASHRAE has an immediate opening for the top position in our Washington, DC office.  The position title is Program Director of Government Affairs.  Responsibilities include: Government Relations, Outreach, Issues Management, Committee support, & managing the DC office and its' staff.  This position coordinates public policy positions with other organizations, evaluates legislation, and facilitates meetings between Society leaders and government officials. Minimum requirements include: a Bachelors degree and five years working in a Capitol Hill office.  Successful candidates must have experience in management and developing and implementing legislative agendas.

IAQA – Chief Staff Officer

ASHRAE, an international nonprofit engineering society, seeks a Chief Staff Officer to lead, implement, and manage daily operations of the Indoor Air Quality Association, an association operated by ASHRAE.  These activities will be based on strategies and programs defined by IAQA volunteer officers, Board of Directors and other IAQA volunteer leaders.

This person will be responsible for the successful completion of IAQA strategic objectives that grow IAQA membership and influence, and help IAQA members better serve the occupants of homes and buildings around the world.

Qualifications include: Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree preferred. Ten years of management experience in an association environment including strong interaction and coordination with volunteers and volunteer committees. Demonstrated ability to manage staff teams to support volunteer committees and handle multiple projects concurrently required. Experience with tracking programs and initiatives to meet set budgets required. Must be able to provide monthly financial statements and interim year-end forecasts.  Experience in conference and event planning preferred. The selected candidate will possess superior computer and interpersonal communications skills and the ability to represent the Society with the highest standard of integrity. Those with an entrepreneurial attitude that will support development of innovative new programs and benefits are preferred. Moderate travel required.

IAQA – Education & Training Coordinator

ASHRAE, an international nonprofit engineering society, seeks a coordinator for education and training activities offered by the Indoor Air Quality Association, an association operated by ASHRAE.  This will include assisting and guiding the IAQA volunteer leadership in the development of education and training offerings and managing the implementation of such offerings so that they meet the ongoing needs of IAQA members and the broader community of indoor air quality professionals.  Expected outcomes are the satisfactory completion of all assignments made by the volunteer IAQA Education Committee as measured by successful execution of all committee activities and the effective management of all education service contractors and partners as measured by attendance at education and training events and fiscal return.  Responsibilities also include the promotion of IAQA University events, updating of the IAQA University website, and coordinating webinars scheduled by the University.

Undergraduate degree in education, adult learning, association management, communications, or English required plus two years of experience with responsibilities that include adult education or administration of educational programs for an association or in the public sector.   Superior administrative skills and five years of administrative experience may be substituted for an undergraduate degree.  Must have demonstrated ability to effectively use office management software systems (email, word processing, spreadsheets), must have excellent written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

IAQA – Standards Administrator

ASHRAE seeks a Standards Administrator with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.  This position will oversee and manage the development of standards and guidelines developed jointly by ASHRAE and the Indoor Air Quality Association.  (IAQA).  Experience in the development or application of consensus standards or codes and editing technical documents is preferred.  Effective communication skills, good judgment and diplomacy are essential.  This position requires travel approximately two times a year.

IAQA – Staff Accountant

ASHRAE, Inc. is searching for an experienced Staff Accountant.  Responsibilities include:

  • Implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Daily and monthly entries for IAQA, and production of monthly financial statements.
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information.
  • Reconcile member database to accounting software. 
  • Research member data and create refunds.
  • Reconcile annual chapter reporting and workshops.
  • Work with data processing for batching of deposits for membership.
  • Maintain vendors and payments on a timely basis.
  • Reconcile vendor data and produce 1099's annually.
  • Special projects and assists with preparation for yearly external audit.

Undergraduate degree in Accounting is required.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Great Plains software. Experience with additional accounting software a plus. Detail oriented and time management skills required. Non-profit and Association Management Software experience preferred.

IAQA – Technology Department: Membership Specialist

ASHRAE seeks a part time (20 hours/week) Membership Specialist with at least a high school diploma, a minimum of one year post high school education and a minimum of one year business secretarial experience in general office duties.  Experience within other non-profit organizations and/or processing membership applications is a plus.   This position will assist in processing membership applications for project committees for the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA).  This individual will also assist the IAQA Standards Administrator in processing paperwork for the management and development of standards and guidelines developed jointly by ASHRAE and IAQA.  Effective communication skills, good judgment and diplomacy are essential.  Skills in Microsoft Office products are required.

IAQA – Web Communications Specialist

ASHRAE, an international nonprofit engineering society, seeks a web content coordinator to provide day to day content management for IAQA.org and other web presences operated by ASHRAE for the Indoor Air Quality Association.  This will include coordinating content inclusion, identifying areas to improve submitted copy, and creating new copy when needed to effectively promote IAQA’s mission. Skills in usability, as well as creativity and good design judgment will be a plus for any candidate. The successful candidate should be able to identify, recommend, and implement modifications as needed to improve usability, & should be able to report and analyze website traffic using internal report tools and Google Analytics.  The candidate will also provide support as time allows for ASHRAE’s web commerce and online advertising functions. The coordinator will be expected to provide exceptional customer service when responding to website related inquiries. 

Two years’ experience designing and/or supporting web sites in any setting is required. Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, the ability to multitask, and the capacity to take initiative while also being an effective team member are necessary to excel in this position. College degree is preferred.
