Regional/Chapter Undergraduate Scholarships

Application Deadline for 2019-2020 Scholarship: November 15, 2018
Scholarships are awarded for the academic year following the application deadline beginning with the fall semester.  Re-applications accepted from former scholarship applicants and recipients who meet current criteria. 

General:
Scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession.  Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • The institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch ASHRAE Student Branches or
  • The program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) www.abet.org or
  • The program is accredited by the Consejo de Acreditación de la Ensenanza de la Ingeniería (CACEI) www.cacei.org

Criteria:

ASHRAE Region I Setty Family Foundation Scholarship - $3,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region I or who has graduated from a high school within Region I, which covers Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Maine, & New Hampshire.

ASHRAE Region III Setty Family Foundation Scholarship - $3,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate pre-engineering or engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region III, which covers Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C.

ASHRAE Region IV Benny Bootle Scholarship - $5,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate pre-engineering, engineering or architecture student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region IV, which covers North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

James R. Bullock Scholarship - $5,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region IV or who has graduated from a high school in Region IV, which covers North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

ASHRAE Region VIII Scholarship - $3,000
A one-year scholarship available annually to a qualified undergraduate pre-engineering or engineering student attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region VIII, which covers Arkansas, Louisiana*, Texas*, Oklahoma, and Mexico.  *Parts of these states are not within the geographic boundaries of Region VIII.  Contact ASHRAE headquarters for information regarding eligible schools in these areas.

CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIPS - $3,000 each
One-year scholarships available annually to qualified students attending a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of an ASHRAE chapter listed below or who have graduated from a high school in the chapter area.

ASHRAE New Jersey Chapter Scholarship
ASHRAE Central New York Chapter King-Traugott Scholarship


Applications and the following documents must be submitted on or before the application deadline to receive consideration. 

  1. Official transcript of grades (college freshmen whose grades are not available by the application deadline must submit an official transcript of high school grades and verification of enrollment in a post-secondary educational institution).  Transcript must be mailed.  Photocopies will not be accepted.

  2. Three signed letters of recommendation as follows: one from an instructor or faculty advisor, a current or past employer, and another character reference (other than a family member).  In cases where the institution has an ASHRAE student branch on campus, a letter from the faculty advisor of that branch may be one of the three letters of recommendation.
