Technical Program

The Annual Conference Program is comprised of eight tracks, and one mini-track selected to represent areas of focus common among ASHRAE membership. These focus areas include professional development, research, fundamentals and applications, systems and equipment, system management (controls) and some more specific design arenas (such as residential buildings and Cogeneration plants).

“The dynamic and innovative industry of HVAC&R is a reflection of our ever-changing individual, societal, and global constructs and demands.” Cindy Moreno, chair of the 2018 ASHRAE Annual Conference, said. “Whether we are facing the thermal comfort needs of a building occupant, the critical environment needs of our expanding medical and technical fields, the food transportation needs of our global community, or the limited resources of our natural environment, as professional designers and installers we are required to evolve with our industry. Even-more-so, ASHRAE members are challenged to drive the innovation, and create HVAC&R solutions that will not only sustain our environment but, in many ways, also repair the human impact our growing demands have had on our natural resources. The 2018 Annual ASHRAE Conference aims to provide the setting for a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experience, and the technical program looks to enrich that exchange with a broad spectrum of topics and discussion. We welcome you to join us as we share ideas ranging from basic design fundamentals to specific applications and technologies.”

Conference Tracks include:

  • HVAC&R Systems and Equipment
  • Fundamentals and Applications
  • District Energy and Cogeneration Plants
  • HVAC & Resiliency: Safeguarding our World
  • Residential – Modern Building in Hot and Humid Climates
  • Professional Skills
  • Research Summit
  • HVAC&R Control Freaks
  • HVAC&R Analytics

The Call for Papers is now closed. The deadline to submit abstract proposals for Conference and Technical Papers was Monday, August 28, 2017.

The Call for Programs will open January 2, 2018.

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Ainissa Ramirez

Inspiring the Next Generation

Our world is at a crossroads and needs a new generation that can think expansively and solve problems resourcefully, however schools often don’t provide many opportunities for children to learn these skills. Fortunately, the topics of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) can help children gain these abilities, and scientific and engineering organizations can help. Dr. Ainissa Ramirez, research scientist and STEM evangelist, will share her insights and challenge us to inspire the next generation. This presentation will illustrate paths to engage children with STEM. She will make a case for the importance for STEM subjects, but for also the soft skills embedded in STEM–of imagination, creativity, curiosity, and making friends with failure–which are equally as important to create a brighter future.
