2018 Winter Conference and Student Program

A special program for students will take place at the 2018 Winter Conference. Events and activities include a mixer, a technical talk, a design competition session, student congress and a tour. Students are also encouraged to attend recommended technical sessions throughout the conference.

An orientation will take place via webinar prior to the meeting.

Saturday, Jan. 20

Student Welcome
1-3 pm

Hear welcoming remarks from ASHRAE Board Officers, followed by presentations by recipients of last year’s Grant program, an awards ceremony and a group activity.

YEA/Student Mixer
5-6:30 pm

Mix and mingle with YEA members. Meet new friends, gain insight into life after college, and enjoy free food.

Sunday, Jan. 21

Student Program
8 am-1:30 pm

The program will feature a discussion on ASHRAE’s Design Competition, a technical talk on HVAC&R, and a career panel followed by lunch.

University of Chicago - William Eckhardt Research Center
The University of Chicago William Eckhardt Research Center (WERC), is a 265,000 square foot high-performance research building which brings together several research groups within the world-renowned Physical Sciences Division (PSD), as well as the Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME), the university’s first ever engineering program. The building includes five stories above grade and two below-grade levels. The latter were specifically designed to accommodate high-performance research laboratories by mitigating vibration and electromagnetic interference. Within the below-grade levels are a 10,000 square foot Class 100 nanofabrication clean room and 18,000 square feet of precision-controlled optics and laser laboratories, among other spaces.

Student Congress
10 am- noon

Student branch officers are selected to participate in this two-hour session to provide ASHRAE leaders with feedback and guidance on student activities.

Student Branch Advisor Congress
10 am-noon

Student branch advisors are invited to join representatives from the Student Activities Committee to brainstorm ideas for the future.
