Tips and Guidance from ASHRAE on Real World HVAC Challenges

In conjunction with the International Building Decarbonization 2022 Conference, ASHRAE is offering two half-day courses covering building decarbonization and smart grid systems applications and integration. Both courses will take place in Athens, Greece.

NEW! Introduction to Building Decarbonization

 Date: Saturday, October 8, 2022   Time: 08:00 – 11:00

Location: Wyndham Grand Athens, 2, Megalou. Alexandrou St, GR 10437, Athens, Greece

Course Summary: This course describes the primary sources for carbon emissions in buildings and explains the key drivers for decarbonization. Carbon accounting options in buildings, current offset strategies, and electrification technology applications are discussed. Case studies will be offered to demonstrate real-world applications as well as US and world statistics.

Instructor: Drury Crawley, Ph.D., AIA, Fellow ASHRAE, BEMP

Smart Grid Systems, Applications and Integration with the Built Environment

 Date: Saturday, October 8, 2022   Time: 13:00 – 16:00

Location: Wyndham Grand Athens, 2, Megalou. Alexandrou St, GR 10437, Athens, Greece

Course Summary: This course presents applications of technologies and design concepts that are leading the way to how buildings and their systems will interact with a smart electrical grid. It also covers the regulatory, public policy and market environment within which the electrical grid is managed and barriers to wider implementation of a smart grid. Also covered are an overview of key concepts from ASHRAE's Smart Grid Application Guide. One focus is on demand response measures and programs and how smart buildings and their new system concepts can interact with the smart grid to implement demand response measures. Several case studies for how the facilities in the built environment can interact with a smart grid are discussed. Finally, the course summarizes some developing trends, technologies and other issues that are driving this evolution of the electrical grid across the globe.
