ASHRAE Helps AHR Expo-Mexico be a Rousing Success

The excitement in Monterrey was palpable at AHR Expo-Mexico 2012, which opened Sept. 26 with visitors lined up at the entrance. ASHRAE hosted a booth where members of the local Monterrey Chapter helped to promote membership in ASHRAE and sell ASHRAE publications, including the many titles ASHRAE provides in Spanish. ASHRAE and AHRI sponsor AHR Expo-Mexico and were on hand to help open AHR Expo-Mexico 2012. Shown (from left) are John Howell, U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Service in Mexico; Clay Stevens, International Exposition Co.; John Harrod, ASHRAE Region VIII director and regional chair, and James Walters, AHRI.

New Data Center Book Emphasizes Energy Efficiency
The third edition of ASHRAE’s Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments provides new guidance on operating data centers in the most energy-efficient manner possible, including how to operate in a completely "chillerless" environment. The book highlights four new data center classes that can enable full-time economizers for a number of applications in many climates. "The most valuable update to this edition is the inclusion of IT equipment failure rate estimates based on inlet air temperature," said Don Beaty, chair of the Publications Subcommittee of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9, Mission Critical Facilities, Technology Spaces and Electronic Equipment.

IAQ 2013 Examines Low-Energy Buildings
ASHRAE has issued a call for abstracts for IAQ 2013, Environmental Health in Low-Energy Buildings. The conference will examine IAQ, thermal comfort, source control, air cleaning, ventilation, exposure and related environmental health concerns associated with low-energy building design, construction, retrofit and operation. The conference will take place Oct. 15–18, 2013, in Vancouver, BC, Canada. “Besides addressing thermal comfort and other IEQ issues, buildings and other enclosed spaces are increasingly challenged to provide a healthy environment while focused on minimizing energy use intensity,” said Steve Emmerich, conference co-chair.
