Hear the Latest Standards News at Winter Conference

  Attendees at the 2013 ASHRAE Winter Conference will be the first to learn about the latest goings-on related to ASHRAE standards as part of the technical program. The 2013 Winter Conference will be held Jan. 26–30 at the Sheraton Dallas. Among the sessions is a seminar, “Conference Breaking News on Standards 90.1, 62.1 and 189.1.” It will be held 2:30–4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28. Updates on the activities of the committees overseeing Standards 90.1-2010, 62.1-2010, and 189.1-2011, will be shared by the respective committee chairs. In all, the technical program features more than 200 sessions and offers the opportunity to earn a year’s worth of PDHs, NY PDHs, AIA LUs and LEED AP credits.

Winter Conference Seminars Cover Moisture Control
  Seminars on what ASHRAE experts have found to be the HVAC-related causes of mold in buildings, and what owners, contractors and designers can do to prevent the problem will be held at the 2013 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Dallas. "Diagnosing and Fixing Building Moisture Problems—Case Histories from Hot and Humid Climates," will be held from 8–9:30 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 27. “Moisture Control in Commissioning of New and Existing Buildings,” takes place 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27. “ASHRAE Position on Limiting Indoor Mold and Dampness in Buildings, Unvented Combustion Devices and Indoor Air Quality” will be held from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30. The seminar reviews three recently published Position Documents from ASHRAE.

ASHRAE Redoubles STEM Education Efforts
  ASHRAE is increasing its efforts to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in public policy by joining the STEM education plays in keeping the U.S. competitive in the global marketplace, as well as in guaranteeing future economic prosperity. As members of the Coalition’s Leadership Council, ASHRAE will work with other member organizations to advance the Coalition’s policy aims through direct advocacy and grassroots education efforts.

'Engineering For Change' Webinar Rescheduled for Dec. 20
  ASHRAE members are invited to participate in the free Engineering for Change (E4C) webinar, Thursday, Dec. 20, 10 a.m. (EST). The webinar was originally set for October but had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Sandy. E4C is a network supporter of Engineering for Change (E4C). E4C is a community of public- and private-sector professionals who design, apply and share innovative and sustainable technical solutions to humanitarian challenges around the world.

2013 ASHRAE Tech Award Winners

  The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design. Their designs incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and indoor air quality. The awards communicate innovative systems design to other ASHRAE members and highlight technological achievements of ASHRAE to others around the world. Winning projects are selected from entries earning regional awards. The awards will be presented to the recipients at the 2013 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Dallas, Jan. 26–30.
