ASHRAE and UNEP Launch 2013–14 Biennial Work Plan
DALLAS—ASHRAE and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have launched their third biennial work plan for 2013–14. The cooperation agreement was developed to achieve several international goals, including the sustainable phase-out of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) in refrigeration and air-conditioning applications; maximizing the climate benefits of using zero ODS alternatives including saving energy in buildings; as well as facilitating the transfer and adoption of suitable technologies in developing countries.
Registration Opens March 18 for ASHRAE Webcast
Registration for the free 2013 ASHRAE Webcast, “Assessing Building Energy Performance: From Principles to Practice,” opens on March 18. The Webcast will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 1–4 p.m. EDT. The webcast will address the importance of building energy performance and its far-reaching implications in both new and existing buildings, as well as the opportunities that assessing building energy performance presents. An archived version of the webcast will be available online until May 3. Registration, also free, is required to view the archived webcast.

Papers Sought for 12th Asia Pacific Conference
MAKATI CITY, Phillipines—Abstracts are being sought for the 12th Asia Pacific Conference on the Built Environment, hosted by the Philippines Chapter. The conference will be held Nov. 5–6 at the Shangri-la Hotel Makati. The theme is “Energy Efficiency in Hot and Humid Climates. Conference topics include HVAC&R technology, environment issues, green building technology, and special cases and topics in HVAC&R. Abstracts are due March 31 with abstract acceptance notification on April 30.

Standard 189.1 provides a total building sustainability package for those who strive to design, build and operate green buildings. From site location to energy use to recycling, this standard sets the foundation for green buildings by addressing site sustainability, water use efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and the building's impact on the atmosphere, materials and resources.
Papers are being sought for the First International Conference on Energy and Indoor Environment for Hot Climates. It will be held Feb. 24–26, 2014, in Doha, Qatar. Abstracts (400 words in length) are due April 30, 2013. “This Conference sets the path for better understanding the integration of energy efficiency and indoor air quality in high ambient temperature regions,” said conference chair Walid Chakroun, Ph.D., Member ASHRAE. The conference is organized by ASHRAE, the Qatar Oryx Chapter and the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.
Abstracts Sought for AiCARR Conference
Abstracts are being sought for papers for the 49th AiCARR International Conference, Historical and Existing Buildings: Designing the Retrofit, An Overview from Energy Performances to Indoor Air Quality. It takes place Feb. 26-28, 2014. The Conference is intended to provide a comprehensive overview on the retrofit deign of historical and existing buildings; with themes related to energy performance, indoor air quality, energy sustainability; and innovations on buildings and their systems. Abstracts are due May 15.
