Electronic Voting for BOD Begins May 6

ASHRAE members will vote on nominees for the 2013–14 Board of Directors (BOD) via ballots being sent in May.

Emails with a link to the electronic ballot will begin being sent May 6 to all qualified voting members with valid email addresses in the Society database.

Voting members who do not have valid email addresses in the Society database will receive a print mailing with a Web address to the electronic ballot and log in credentials.

   The Board of Directors (BOD) for the 2013–14 Society year will be installed at the 2013 Annual Conference in Denver, June 22–26. Per ASHRAE procedure, BOD nominees will be listed on the ballot sent to members in May. William P. (Bill) Bahnfleth, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, ASME Fellow, professor, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa., will be installed as the 2013–14 president at the Annual Conference. Thomas H. Phoenix, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, ASHRAE-Certified Building Energy Assessment and Building Energy Modeling Professional, principal and vice president, Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates, Greensboro, N.C., will become president-elect.

2013 ASHRAE Handbook Set for June Publication

  The 2013 ASHRAE Handbook—Fundamentals will expand its climatic design content to include data from nearly 900 more worldwide reporting stations than the 2009 volume. Each station’s data will now also include monthly precipitation. In addition to the updated, expanded climatic data, major revisions were also made to Chapter 18, “Nonresidential Cooling and Heating Load Calculations,” including new plug load data and recommendations, an elevation correction example, an equation summary, and an entirely new master example section based on the renovated ASHRAE Headquarters building. In all, the Fundamentals volume includes 39 chapters. The volume is scheduled to be published on June 1, and mailings to eligible Members and Associate Members in good standing will begin on or near that date.

First Lynn G. Bellenger Scholarship Awarded

  The first Lynn G. Bellenger scholarship has been awarded to Tiffany Williams, a senior at North Carolina A&T University. Williams is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering. She serves as secretary of her college’s ASHRAE student branch. The scholarship is named for the late Lynn G. Bellenger, who in 2011–12 was ASHRAE's first female president. The one-year $5,000 scholarship is intended for deserving female undergraduate engineering students pursuing  degrees in fields related to HVAC&R.

Building Energy Performance Focus of Free April 18 Webcast

The 2013 free ASHRAE Webcast, “Assessing Building Energy Performance—From Principles to Practice,” will be presented April 18. The webcast will address the importance of building energy performance and its implications in new and existing buildings.

The Webcast presenters are ASHRAE president Thomas Watson, P.E., Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE; Drury Crawley, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, ASHRAE-Certified Building Energy Modeling Professional; Jim Kelsey, ASHRAE-Certified Building Energy Assessment Professional; and Christopher Mathis.

The webcast has been approved for three Learning Units (LUs) by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), as well as three Continuing Education (CE) Hours by the Green Building Certification Institute.
