2013-Handbook-Coming

2013 Handbook Coming Soon

The 2013 ASHRAE Handbook—Fundamentals will expand its climatic design content to include data from nearly 900 more worldwide reporting stations than the 2009 volume. Each station’s data will now also include monthly precipitation.

In addition to the updated, expanded climatic data, major revisions were also made to Chapter 18, “Nonresidential Cooling and Heating Load Calculations,” including new plug load data and recommendations, an elevation correction example, an equation summary, and an entirely new master example section based on the renovated ASHRAE Headquarters building.

The flagship of ASHRAE’s Handbook series, the Fundamentals volume’s 39 chapters cover basic principles and data used in the HVAC&R industry, including updated information on building materials, load calculations, energy resources and analysis, refrigerants, indoor environmental quality (IEQ), sustainability, controls, duct and piping system design, and more.

The volume is scheduled to be published on June 1, and mailings to eligible Members and Associates in good standing will begin on or near that date.

Many members, particularly those who live outside North America, are eager to know when to expect the latest edition of this valuable membership benefit via their local postal service.

Members are encouraged to check their ASHRAE online profile prior to April 15 to ensure ASHRAE has their correct mailing address. This can be done at www.ashrae.org. Also, if members have not paid their annual dues, they are encouraged to do so to ensure they receive a Handbook. Dues can be paid also online at www.ashrae.org.

Print volumes of the Handbook, which include a CD of that volume, will be mailed the last week of May to eligible Members and Associate Members in good standing. The CD includes the volume in I-P and SI units.

The CD-only Handbook will also mail at the same time. Members receiving the CD only are members who joined under the developing economies program and other members who selected the CD-only option.

In total, ASHRAE will mail some 40,000 Handbooks to members and standing customers by July.

The new 2013 volume will be added to ASHRAE Handbook Online by the end of July. Members can subscribe for $49 (list $249) and get immediate, searchable access to all four volumes in both I-P and SI units.
