HVAC&R Research Presents Inaugural Best Paper Award

Bryan Rasmussen, Ph.D., received ASHRAE’s first-ever HVAC&R Research Best Paper Award at the 2013 Annual Convention in Denver. The award was presented by editor Reinhard Radermacher, Ph.D., Fellow ASHRAE. The award recognizes the best refereed paper published in the volume year of HVAC&R Research, the ASHRAE research journal.

Rasmussen received the award for his paper, “Dynamic Modeling for Vapor Compression Systems, Part I: Literature Review.” The two-part article provides an introduction to dynamic modeling for vapor compression systems. Part I provides a detailed review of current literature in this area. Both physics- and data-based approaches are discussed with their associated advantages and limitations.

“The paper presents a very comprehensive review with a critical assessment of the various contributions to the field and distills generalized ‘lessons learned’ for how to best conduct and apply transient simulation,” said Radermacher. “ It is considered a great resource for anybody starting out new in the field of dynamic system simulation and/or somebody who has already experience but would like to consolidate and expand his/her understanding.”

Rasmussen is an associate professor, department of Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas.
