Each issue of HVAC&R Research, ASHRAE's archival research journal, contains more than 150 pages in 8.5 by 11-inch format, with 8 issues published online and combined twice a year in print (June and December). Using Taylor & Francis' early online-publication system, iFirst, accepted articles are published online in unedited form within 7 days of receipt, making new knowledge available to researchers in the shortest possible time.
HVAC&R Research offers comprehensive reporting of research in the fields of environmental control for the built environment and cooling technologies for a wide range of applications and related processes and concepts, including underlying thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. Only works reporting on research that is original and of lasting value are accepted for publication. Included in the ISI Web of Science and Current Contents databases, this journal is ASHRAE's archival research publication.

HVAC&R Research editor Reinhard Radermacher, Ph.D., Fellow ASHRAE presented the first ever HVAC&R Research Best Paper Award to Bryan Rasmussen, Ph.D. at the 2013 Annual Conference held in Denver. The award recognizes the best refereed paper published in the volume year of HVAC&R Research.
