Indoor air quality (IAQ) is one of the most commonly discussed aspect of building indoor environmental quality (IEQ). IAQ has direct effects on our health as well as the perception of an acceptable indoor environment. In the United States, ASHRAE Standard 62.1: Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality is the most commonly referenced standard to quantify acceptable conditions and appropriate HVAC system design. The standard either forms the basis for most mechanical codes or is directly referenced by the codes themselves.
ASHRAE offers a customized training solution for Middle East practitioners that outlines the minimum acceptable requirements for buildings IAQ. The course focuses on the basic requirements of ASHRAE Standard 62.1
This course provides an overview of the requirements of the standard with emphasis on changes from the previous versions. Updates to the indoor air quality procedure for determining minimum ventilation rates are discussed.

Course Objectives:
- Review requirements of ASHRAE Standard 62.1
- Perform psychrometric calculation of the resultant dew point to check compliance with the standard maximum dew point requirement
- Clarify how different approaches to HVAC design result in different quantities of outside air at the outside air intake
- Review single zone, 100% outdoor air, and multiple zone constant volume (CV) systems
- As an exercise, apply requirements to a hypothetical new building—Office Building in Dubai, UAE
- Compare the ventilation rate procedure, the indoor air quality procedure, and the natural ventilation procedure
