Stephen Hamstra, P.E.

    Biography

    Stephen Hamstra is a professional engineer, based out of West Michigan.  His 4-decade career has focused on designing high performance buildings.  He is currently the Chief Engineer at Genesys Geothermal promoting downhole heat transfer technologies to significantly reduce the cost of ground heat exchangers.  He is both an ASHRAE High Performance Design Professional and a Certified GeoExchange Designer.

    He has expertise in geothermal design and modeling and is involved in writing standards and codes for various organizations.  Steve has previously served as the Chair of ASHRAE’s TC 6.8 geothermal heat pump committee and serves on IAPMO’s code development task group.  Steve holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University.
