Dr. Ryan is retired from his positions as Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of the Master of Energy Engineering Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago and an educational consultant for the Gas Technology Institute. He was previously the Team Leader for Residential/Commercial research for the Gas Research Institute. He holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. His research has involved absorption heat pumps systems, energy use in the built environment, CHP systems, and carbon emissions modeling. Dr. Ryan is the winner of the 2011 ASHRAE Campbell Award for Achievement in Education, a 2017 ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award, and is an ASHRAE Fellow.
