Code officials, project managers, and designers have long recognized the need for a modern, up-to-date code governing the environmental impact of commercial buildings.

The 2018 IgCC has been designed to meet this need through model code regulations that contain clear and specific requirements with provisions that promote safe and sustainable construction. The 2018 IgCC is the first fully integrated edition to be developed cooperatively by ICC and ASHRAE.

ASHRAE and its co-sponsors have released a joint web event announcing the release, and provided key technical details to ensure the 2018 IgCC is implemented and adopted for the benefit of all.

Standard 189.1 provides total building sustainability guidance for designing, building, and operating high-performance green buildings. From site location to energy use to recycling, this standard sets the foundation for green buildings by addressing site sustainability, water use efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality (IEQ), and the building's impact on the atmosphere, materials and resources.


ASHRAE Standard 189.1-2017 is available only outside of United States and Canada.
