An ASHRAE research project has performed case studies that will eventually lead to an updated ASHRAE Performance Measurement Protocols (PMP) for Commercial Buildings document. This PMP defines a method of measuring and analyzing building performance in energy, water, thermal comfort, IAQ, lighting and acoustics to standardize assessments of “green” or “high performance” buildings.

The research project evaluated each performance measurement task and level for four buildings in multiple climate zones. The final report highlights key issues and recommends changes for each task for possible implementation in the updated PMP publication. A technical paper has been submitted for future publication in the ASHRAE Science and Technology for the Built Environment.

1702-RP, Caste Studies to Test Performance Measurement Protocols, was sponsored by TC 7.6, Building Energy Performance. The principal investigator was Dr. Liping Wang with the University of Wyoming.
