Free Training Helps Grow Chapter’s ASHRAE Student Membership by Almost 900%

One ASHRAE chapter increased their student membership by about 900% in the past year, thanks to an education program.
Of the students who participated in the program, 70% decided to join ASHRAE.
The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León Student Branch of ASHRAE Monterrey Chapter México designed a free program—called the Undergraduate Certification Program in HVAC—that offers 90 hours of training on 12 topics ranging from thermodynamics to energy modeling. ASHRAE members and UANL faculty members teach the course.
Before launching the program, the student branch had 11 members. After the program launched in August 2021, the student branch now boasts 109 new ASHRAE student members.
Developed to promote the talent of undergraduate students of the Facultad de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica of the UANL in the HVAC industry, the program contributes to the sustainable future of México through innovation, entrepreneurship and research.
A total of 120 students were convinced of the quality of the information provided that is based on ASHRAE Handbook—Fundamentals and the Society’s standards. Of the students who are participated, 70% made the decision to join ASHRAE because of this program. In addition, 100% of those surveyed students would recommend the certificate program.
