Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Monitoring and processing of standards and codes
  2. Develop and  maintain a detailed plan for staff action related to codes
  3. Serve as subscribing member of model code organizations
  4. Represent ASHRAE in ICC, , IAPMO, and NFPA meetings
  5. Submit standards to model code groups for adoption by reference; coordinate CIS review and comment on positions of others relative to these potential adoptions
  6. Submit proposals to model code groups that excerpt appropriate sections from an ASHRAE Standard, when approved by the SPC/SSPC responsible for the standard; coordinate CIS review and comment on positions of others relative to these proposals
  7. Coordinate project committee review of code change proposals and comments on positions of others relative to potential code adoptions.
  8. Review proposed changes to model codes of interest to or having an impact on ASHRAE and develop a position on them through CIS and the appropriate ASHRAE committees.
  9. Represent ASHRAE at code change hearings
  10. Represent ASHRAE, as directed by the Senior MOS, on the ICC Industry Advocacy Committee on code related matters.
  11. Manage activities of the Assistant Manager of Codes, Assistant Manager of Standards-Administration, and the Sec/AA to Codes.
  12. Serve as a staff liaison to the Code Interaction Subcommittee and Standing Standard Project Committees 90.1 and 90.2.
  13. Assist project committee in revising standards for adoption in codes.
  14. Perform other duties as requested, required, and appropriate.

Education and Job-Related Experience

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required. Successful applicants will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or similar technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge of standards/codes development or application
  • Familiarity with ICC, IAPMO and NFPA
  • Effective communication skills that includes comprehending and explaining complex technical information quickly
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Diplomacy especially in interacting with outside organizations and committees.
  • Enjoy travelling domestically five to six times per year.
