Are you looking to get involved in the management and oversight of the development of building codes and standards for HVAC&R?  Do you enjoy working with volunteers?  Are you outgoing and diplomatic? ASHRAE seeks a Senior Manager of Standards with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical degree is required with at least 4 to 8 years’ experience.  Responsibilities include supervising a staff of approximately ten people, providing guidance on the draft standards through the development process, overseeing the coordination of code activities, overseeing the coordination of international standards activities, managing budgets, and interacting with the American National Standards Institute. Individuals with experience or knowledge in the development of consensus-based standards and codes, international standards, and management experience are desired.  Effective communication skills, good judgment and diplomacy are essential as this position interacts with outside committees and organizations.  This position requires domestic travel approximately five to six times per year.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serving as the staff liaison and recording secretary for ASHRAE’s Standards Committee.
  2. Assisting Project Committees in the development of Standards.
  3. Supervise the Manager of Standards-International on intersociety and international standards related activities.
  4. Supervise Manager of Standards-Codes on codes-related issues.
  5. Supervise Manager of Standards on standards related issues.
  6. Supervise the Assistant Manager of Standards Administration.
  7. Serve as a Staff Liaison to Ad Hoc Committees of Technology Council.
  8. Manage interactions with and responsibilities to the American National Standards institute.
  9. Maintain ASHRAE accreditation and audited designator status.
  10. Serve on ANSI Committees and Boards as appropriate.
  11. Provide comments on developing issues on ASHRAE’s behalf to ANSI.
  12. Serve as the key contact with ASHRAE legal counsel regarding standards-related legal issues.
  13. Oversee the appeals process at ASHRAE and ANSI.
  14. Answer inquires relating to standards.

 Education and Job-Related Experience

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required. Successful applicants will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Four to eight years’ experience a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge of standards/codes development or application
  • Familiarity with ANSI and ISO
  • Effective communication skills that include comprehending and explaining complex technical information quickly
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Diplomacy especially in interacting with outside organizations and committees.
  • Enjoy travelling domestically five to six times per year.
