I loved my 5 years at Penn State where I earned a bachelor’s in architectural engineering and minor in architectural studies. As an undergraduate, I volunteered for ASHRAE, Women in Engineering Program, Society of Women Engineers, and Dance MaraTHON; I take pride in giving back to my local communities and supporting others. I always recommend that students intern during their time in school to find out what they may like (and not like) about the “real world” opportunities. The summer after freshman year, I interned at JMT—where I still work—designing energy-efficient buildings and now managing complete facility design and construction projects.
On a winter site visit during my first year as a professional, I observed elementary school students and teachers wearing heavy coats and hats in classrooms. I was inspired to design sustainable HVAC systems for schools, which save energy and money while enhancing the health, safety, and well-being of generations. Increased ventilation and comfortable classrooms aid students to think and learn. I am excited to be shaping both a better environment and a better future and know that I am making a difference.
I joined ASHRAE as a student in 2009 to grow both professionally and personally and have been an active volunteer since. I energetically make a difference by providing a healthy and sustainable built environment for occupants, and by sharing my knowledge with those I meet. Having received leadership training from ASHRAE, I traveled throughout North America, Malaysia, India, Greece, and Serbia to promote leadership skills and professional development tactics for young engineers. I have volunteered at the local, regional, and society (international) levels. As the Young Engineer in ASHRAE (YEA) Chair, I directed the operation of a committee serving 11,000 members worldwide through events, programs, and scholarships. From 2019-2020, I was the youngest-ever president of the Baltimore ASHRAE chapter, and first female president of the chapter in more than a decade.
I am currently an Associate Vice President at JMT with 14 years’ experience designing, managing, and commissioning engineering and construction projects. I’ve served on my firm’s Board as an advisory member and am presently a Trustee. Recently, I cocreated JMT’s Project Delivery Group, consisting of project managers experienced and trained in multidiscipline concepts who effectively manage large teams for complex projects. I am a project manager for tasks in facilities such as local public schools, the BWI Marshall airport, and World Trade Center, Baltimore. By designing comfortable and healthy environments for building occupants, I know I am leaving a positive impact on peoples’ lives.
