Russell Marcks, P.E. has been the Student Branch Advisor for the Dayton Area Student Branch for over 25 years and has maintained one ASHRAE’s most active student branches. This year he retired from Sinclair College after 33 years as a professor in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Russell has dedicated his career to teaching his students and providing them the hands-on experience needed to succeed in the workforce. He has built the Sinclair HVAC program from the ground up and leaves a great legacy behind him.

Some of the events and activities in SY22-23 are highlighted below:

Russell and his students shared their knowledge and skills to an international audience at the 2023 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The project was the top application of over 80 submissions in 2022 for the ASHRAE Undergraduate Research Equipment Grants. The project involved installing an 8-ton Mitsubishi Variable Refrigerant Flow system with two heads in the HVAC lab at Sinclair. The lab has been built up with the assistance of many ASHRAE grants Russell has been awarded over the years, and this was not the first time he was recognized as one of the top applicants in this process.
