Changing of the Guard: Introducing the New Engineer’s Notebook Columnists
From ASHRAE Journal Newsletter, Jan. 14, 2020
For six years, ASHRAE Journal readers could count on one of four engineers writing in the monthly publication. Now, a new crop of writers are taking over.
Since October 2013, Engineer’s Notebook columnists Steve Taylor, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE; Steve Duda, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE; Dan Nall, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE; and Kent Peterson, P.E., Presidential Member/Fellow ASHRAE, have taken turns sharing their more than 100 years of practical experience with readers. Their columns covered how to make the systems work better, save money, identify things to avoid and more.
Starting this month, the first column from a new team of Engineer’s Notebook columnists debuted, representing a changing of the guard.
Jeff Boldt, P.E, Fellow ASHRAE, is the first of this new crop of talent to write an Engineer’s Notebook column. He tackled selecting control valves in the column that was published in January. Read the column here. Boldt is a managing principal – director of innovation and quality at IMEG Corp. in Madison, Wis.
Kelley Cramm, P.E., Member ASHRAE, an associate at Henderson Engineers in Lenexa, Kan., wrote the second column from this group of new writers. Cramm’s article discusses the challenges of mixing boxes, or mixing plenums, in air-handlers and presents some case studies of projects with mixing boxes that didn't work well, including how the problem was resolved. The column will be published in the February ASHRAE Journal. Cramm is a Director-at-Large on the ASHRAE Board of Directors.
The other new Engineer’s Notebook columnists are:
-
David Sellers, P.E., Member ASHRAE, senior engineer at Facility Dynamics Engineering in Portland, Ore.;
-
Erin McConahey, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, principal at Arup in Los Angeles, Calif.;
-
Nathan Ho, P.E., Associate Member ASHRAE, associate principal/engineering group leader at P2S Engineering in Long Beach, Calif.
To commemorate the retiring Engineer’s Notebook columnists, read the columns they personally selected to discuss at the 2018 and 2019 ASHRAE Winter Conferences.
