    Biography

    Gary Phetteplace, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE, is the founder of GWA Research, LLC. He has developed several models for optimal design for district heating and cooling (DHC) systems and has conducted a number of field studies that have instrumented and measured the performance of both existing and new distribution systems. Dr. Phetteplace has acted either as the principal investigator or a participant in extensive field forensics programs for the DOD for over 25 years. These efforts included approximately 100 excavations of operating systems. In addition to all branches of DOD and the Veterans Administration, Dr. Phetteplace has acted as a consultant on heat distribution systems for the EPA, DOE, NASA, and numerous private entities. He has contributed to many DOD guide specifications for construction and procurement and has authored major sections of some of these documents. Dr. Phetteplace has been the long-standing editor and Handbook Committee Chairman for ASHRAE Technical Committee (TC) 6.2, District Energy.
