The ASHRAE 62.1 app includes calculations for ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2013. More details are available at Apple's App store here.
ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, now updated for 2016, sets minimum ventilation rates and other requirements for commercial and institutional buildings. Standard 62.1 has served the building industry and the public as the most prominent standard on ventilation for indoor air quality.
The ASHRAE 62.1 iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad application allows you to perform comprehensive minimum ventilation calculations for a wide variety of commercial buildings based upon Standard 62.1, using either I-P or SI units. This app is based upon the '62MZCalc.xls' Excel spreadsheet that accompanies each copy of the 62.1 User's Manual. You can do pretty much everything in this app that you can do in the Excel spreadsheet, in addition to creating multi-system projects and emailing results so you can perform further analysis.
Other advantages over the spreadsheet include:
- Easily perform ventilation calcs in the field using your mobile device.
- By using slider-control inputs, you can Instantly see results update as input values are changed.
- Easily email inputs and results in an html-formatted email and also an Excel spreadsheet for further analysis back at the office.

Calculating ventilation rates just became a little easier with the updated iPhone app designed specifically for ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2013, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. The app, called ASHRAE 62.1, provides functionality similar to the interactive 62MZCalc spreadsheets of Standard 62.1, which makes for convenient calculations while in the field.
"As a leader in the advancement of the latest HVAC&R technology, it's only right that we utilize the latest smart phone technology," Jim Fields, volunteer head of ASHRAE's publishing activities, said.
"This new application will ensure that engineers in the field have instant access to the most accurate information without having to return to their office to perform calculations."
The ASHRAE 62.1 app can also be used to determine 62.1 compliance of simple ventilation systems (single zone, 100 percent outdoor-air and changeover-bypass VAV) as well as more complex ventilation systems (single-path, multiplezone recirculating) and can operate in both IP and metric units. Other benefits include the ability to store and access multiple projects within the app and also send email inputs and results for use in a spreadsheet at a later time.
This app was developed for ASHRAE by Carmel Software Corporation, a firm specializing in the development of engineering and scientific mobile and tablet software applications.
The ASHRAE 62.1 app will be compatible with iOS products and can be purchased for $19.99 through Apple's App Store.
