Supplemental Files for ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.4-2019, Energy Standard for Data Centers

Thank you for purchasing ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.4-2019. The 90.4 MLC HVAC Calculation Examples files listed below are available only to purchasers of this standard; the files can be downloaded to your computer for personal use only. Note that additional files may be included here from time to time, so users should periodically check this website for more files. If the files at these links are not accessible, please contact the publisher.

90.4 MLC HVAC Calculation Examples:

Data Center with CRAH and air-chiller in 5A

Data Center with IDEC in 5B - Revision 3 [September 2021]

These files contain examples of energy calculations for two different HVAC designs. The cooling, fan and pump calculations are used to determine the Annualized Mechanical Load component (aMLC), as defined in Standard 90.4-2019 Section 6.5. The resulting aMLC value is compared to the Table 6.5 value, for your climate zone, to see if you comply.

The SSPC 90.4 Mechanical Work Group is developing a collection of energy calculation examples for different data center HVAC system types to advise engineers of satisfactory ways of calculating equipment and total data center HVAC energy use that complies with the standard.

The committee plans to continue updating this page to eventually include the common data center HVAC system designs installed today and add examples of new technologies as they emerge. If you would like to learn more about this ongoing effort or contribute HVAC engineering calculations/software from your own data center designs, please contact Emily Toto (etoto@ashrae.org) or Rick Zbin (rick.zbin@kp.org).
