2017 LowDown Showdown participants and judges
Held in conjunction with the 2017 Building Performance Analysis Conference, the ASHRAE LowDown Showdown modeling competition showcased the work of four teams, who worked as an integrated team to use their design and modeling skills to create a near net-zero energy building. The baseline building is an existing 43,942 sf office and warehouse building.
Each team was comprised of registered attendees who adopted roles on each team, such as engineer, architect, designer and energy modelers. The teams were given a common playing field with “Model Building Requirements.”
A half day of the conference was devoted to the LowDown Showdown for the teams to present their projects, attendees to ask questions and voting. The models were created using the available industry software thereby providing excellent hands-on examples of how to use different aspects of the software.
Teams were evaluated in six categories: energy, teamwork, practicality, creativity, calibration and presentation. Conference attendees voted electronically for the fan favorite. The results were announced at a reception that evening.

The 2018 ASHRAE LowDown Showdown modeling challenge will be held in conjunction with the 2018 Building Performance Analysis Conference and SimBuild co-organized by ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA which will take place September 26-28, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.
