TC Recognizes ‘Cool TES Hall of Fame’ Inductees

From eSociety, March 2020

Members of ASHRAE TC 6.9 Thermal Storage recognized inductees into its “Cool TES Hall of Fame” at a luncheon held during the 2020 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Orlando, Fla. The Hall of Fame was the idea of the eight co-authors of a 125th anniversary historical article “Evolution of Thermal Energy Storage for Cooling Applications” published in the October 2019 ASHRAE Journal issue that traces the history of the technology. Fourteen inductees were selected in six categories—academics, consultants, equipment suppliers, owners, utilities and others. Many are retired or deceased and could not be present, but certificates were presented to John Nix of Florida Power and Light, who was noted for his work in utility incentive programs; William Bahnfleth for his research on stratified chilled water storage; and Calvin McCracken (deceased) of Calmac Manufacturing—one of the pioneering producers of ice storage equipment—who was represented by his son Mark.

Honorees present included (left to right) John Nix, Bill Bahnfleth and Mark McCracken (son of inductee Calvin McCracken, deceased).
