Selection Process:
Scholarships are awarded based on the following and for the academic year following the application deadline beginning with the fall semester. Re-applications will be accepted from former scholarship applicants and recipients provided they meet current scholarship criteria. Students may only receive one Society scholarship in any given year. Scholarship amounts awarded shall not exceed the direct annual cost of attending the educational institution (i.e. tuition, books, supplies, room and board, etc.) through graduation.
- A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% evidenced by an official transcript of grades or written statement from a school administrator.
- Three letters of recommendation, including one from an instructor or faculty advisor, a current or past employer, and another character reference. In the case of schools with an ASHRAE student branch, a letter from the faculty advisor of that branch may be one of the three letters of recommendation.

Top Ten Tips for ASHRAE Scholarship Applicants
- Become an ASHRAE student member. Though not required for scholarship eligibility, a student membership will provide you with valuable resources, opportunities, and connections that will help you in your chosen career path.
- Read the application carefully and answer all questions completely and honestly.
- Make sure you meet all the criteria.
- Make sure you submit the application and all required documents on or before the applicable deadline.
- Use proper English (correct grammar and spelling) when completing the application.
- Make sure your application, if typed or handwritten, is NEAT and legible.
- Submit a brief, non-required introductory cover letter.
- Be clear and thorough when stating goals, financial need and answering essay questions..
- Learn about the Society by contacting the nearest local ASHRAE chapter in your area and to find out if your school has a student branch on campus.
